Burrowing Owl Chick Watching the Sunrise Near it's Den - California

A burrowing owl chick resting on the edge of its burrow in May 2022. This was taken just before sunrise and if you look closely you will see the sunrise reflection in its eyes. Although not endangered burrowing owls in Southern California have been on a big decline due to loss of habitat. I've visited this area several times over the last few years as it was the best place to see them without driving for several hours. Sadly this area is now lost as it's being developed.
