Mama Burrowing Owl Surveys the Area as Papa Rests
Mama burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia) looks like she has a task in mind for Papa owl while he tries to nap. In reality she is surveying the area as she keeps an eye out for more bugs to feed their hungry chicks. I saw at least 4 chicks, but it was difficult to count them as they would go in and out of the nest. Some others reported seeing as many as 9 chicks out at one time.
