Breakfast!

Feeding time for a western grebe chick. Note the pink bear patch on the head of the chick. This patch will turn more red when the chick is hungry and more pale when it is full. It's amazing to see how much this small chick can swallow. The parent is hanging on to the fish with good reason, after attempting to swallow the fish the chick dropped it and the parent had to reclaim it. The chick was given the fish again and this time barely managed to swallow it.
