Jacks Camp in Botswana has a habituated colony of Meerkats (Suricata suricatta). One of the guides visits the meerkat colony daily to accustom them to people. This habituation allowed me to get close without disturbing them. One even climbed on top of my head to get a better lookout for predators. We were able to run along with them as they searched for food. In this photo we arrived predawn and waited for the meerkats to come up from their holes and warm themselves in the morning sunlight.
