Polar Bear: Ursus maritimus, near Churchill, Canada. Polar bears gather in Churchill as they wait for the Hudson Bay ice to freeze. The ice near shore was nearly frozen and some polar bears had departed for the ice. This bear decided to give it a little more time. It had been laying down on a clear afternoon; however the robust winds and blowing snow seemed to make him a little restless in the unsheltered location. After a short time it moved in our general direction allow me to capture it walking in the beautiful afternoon light.
