Neighborhood Watch

A western screech-owl (Megascops kennicottii) chick watches through the crack of its nest. This is one of three chicks in the nest. The nest goes deep into the tree and often none of the family are visible but shortly before sunset they get active, and the chicks peek out of the cracks. After sunset the parent comes up and the three chicks come to the top of the nest before flying out.
