Polar Bear Climbs Glacier that has Calved Off a Glacier
Recent news reports discuss a small group of polar bears in Greenland living off of glacier ice instead of sea ice. In August 2013, we watched a polar bear in Svalbard doing something similar. We found the bear just off the Austfonna ice cap at the time the sea ice had retreated far to the north. This bear stayed behind instead of following the ice and by her weight seemed to be doing well.
