Jaguar: Porto Jofre, Pantanal, Brazil
It is unusual for a jaguar to be spotted in a tree, but we came across this one hanging out in a dead tree that was hanging over the river. The jaguar would rest for a bit seeming to almost go to sleep and then wake up and look around. It seemed to be an ideal spot for watching for a caiman or capybara to come along. We waited and observed him for a while, hoping to see a hunt. But the tree hand one disadvantage, it was very exposed in the October heat. After a while he got up and returned to the dense forest along the edge of the river.
