In August, 2023 we toured the inside passage of Alaska from a small boat hoping to see wildlife. Freshwater Bay on Chichagot Island was the highlight of the trip for me. Brown bears had come here to fish for salmon. We stayed for a few magical days and were able to see all ages of bears come in and out of the area. On this afternoon it was raining so only a few of us went out. The high tide was in our favor as it allowed us to photograph from a dinghy. This allowed us to get a little closer to the falls without disturbing bears. We watched as this mother bear with three yearling cubs searched for salmon. She was not having much success on the far side of the falls so she cross the top of the falls with her cubs following. In this photo two cubs are seen clearly. The third cub is just barely visible on the left side.
