Highly Honored in the 2024 Nature's Best International Awards - Wildlife Category. While driving though Yellowstone early on a misty morning, we came across a bison heard that appeared to be sleeping in. They were all lying down, presumably waiting for the sun to come out. The mist and background led to a nice scene so we got out to watch and photograph them. After a few minutes one calf (aka “red dog”) got up and was ready to be fed. He became quite a pest as he kept pushing on mom from every angle – even jumping on her to rouse her. When she finally got up she would not let him nurse so he gave her a little challenge before sniffing at the grass and dejectedly lying down.
